Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Is Pharmacology Difficult Podcast and today's topic is very very informative and interesting. We will talk about cortisol and burnout. Now, first and foremost, I want to ask you what do you mean by burnout? It is not simple tiredness, it does not happen instantly. It is an emotional, physiological, and mental fatigue that builds up gradually over time. We all know cortisol hormone is involved in stress response. In times of challenges, cortisol prepares our body to face them bravely. I'm sure and I hope you now very well understand the essence of cortisol in proper time and in healthy, I mean proper amount. Then the question arises why burnout? Chronic stress developing or building over time gradually disturbs the cortisol production and regulation. There are so many contributing factors to modern burnout like extra workload, digital excitement, performance pressure, recovery delays, sleep disturbances, emotional setbacks. Nervous system is so busy coping with so many problems that it hardly gets time to be at rest. Symptoms and complaints like emotional detachment, mental draining, exhaustion after resting too often are happening and being reported. How can one work in a fit manner and be productive without recovery and rest? Same applies to the brain and the nervous system. They do get exhausted. There needs to be inclusion of supportive practices like yoga, social connectivity, exercise, mindfulness, proper sleep, and staying away from digital stimulation. All will help in rejuvenation and recovery of the nervous system. With the pharmacological knowledge, we understand how stress chemistry acts and affects our body. System crashes every time the balance is disturbed or dislodged. One should practice and learn to pause before the crash. Please keep in your mind and always remember rest is not laziness or negligence. It's simple preventive medicine, and prevention is better than cure. Hope all understand how to prevent or deal with cortisol burnout now. With this note, I wrap up today's episode and hope it was really useful and informative to all of you.
