Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of this Pharmacology Difficult podcast. Today we are going to talk about a very interesting topic, quite a favorite of many of you and mine also, caffeine pharmacology. It's very important to understand the caffeine pharmacology because sometimes we may only know the pros but not the cons. So, right in the simple cup of tea. Are you one of those who simply think caffeine gives us energy? Let me explain to you the pharmacologically caffeine blocks the adenosine receptors in the brain. Now we'll understand all these things more deeply. Edenosine is a natural endogenous purine nucleocyte. Our body continually produces it, primarily by breaking down adenosine triphosphate, that is capital ATP, to regulate the cellular energy, manage inflammation, and control the sleep-wake cycles. During metabolic stress like hypoxia or tissue injury, the local concentration of adenosine spikes up to protect the skills. It has broad effects on the heart and the nervous system. Let's understand more. It gradually builds up during the day and promotes sleepiness and relaxation. Now you understand the picture is crystal clear. Caffeine blocksetidosi, brain feels more alert, heart rate slightly increases, attention improves temporarily. One may feel less or reduced fatigue. So everybody, including me, loves coffee and relates it to productivity culture. Right? Students, professionals, travelers, tech employees all use it. But balance, I'm saying it again, balance is an art. Rather, I should say one very important proverb with a little modification. Balance is a flower that does not grow in every man's garden. Too much caffeine may cause jitteriness, anxiety, palpitations, sleep disturbances, and restlessness. The effect of caffeine may last for hours. So drinking a cup of coffee in the late evening may interfere with your sleep cycles. Beware of that. Now let me reveal to all of you the most interesting part which you may never ever realize. I don't know whether you realize it or not, but it's very important and very, very interesting. Even everyday beverages like tea and coffee in the morning that we have, they slowly and gradually influence the brain's chemistry. See, pharmacology is not only about prescription medicines, in fact, it begins with what we casually sip every morning. So next time you hold a cup of tea or coffee, do remember you are also holding neurochemistry. God, that sounds scary. With this though, I wrap up today's episode and hope it was really useful and informative to all of you. If you really found it informative, don't forget to hit the like button.
